Dedication Ceremonies

Scott and Tina Hieronimus Family

“It’s been a long journey for us all, Scott and I lost our jobs and became homeless with our children, that is how we end-ed up living in the Mankato shelter. We heard about Habitat through Partners for Affordable Housing and were turned down originally because of our debt. We worked real hard to pay down our debt and reapplied and were accepted. It was a wonderful feeling when we got the call that we were going to be a homeowner.”

– Tina

“One special moment for me was working with all the Care-A-Vanners. We met some very nice people and learned a lot. We had some good laughs and were able to get a lot done.”

“After moving into our new Habitat Home, we will feel very happy and hopeful to have a stable, decent, and affordable home. Acceptance into the Habitat Program is a gift and blessing from God for our family. We will not have to worry about moving again or being overcrowded. Our children will not have to worry about changing from school to school and making new friends each year. Finally a place to permanently call our own is ours. Thank you Habitat for Humanity!”

Katie Schwermann Family

“With the multiple moves we’ve had, my girls and I have experienced living with mold, insects, leaky roof, leaky windows, rotten floors, outlets that didn’t work, bad neighbors, and the list goes on. I thought there was no hope of ever being able to afford a decent place for my girls to grow up in and I had accepted that that was the way we were going to have to live. Since I’ve been accepted into Habitat I’ve learned that it’s not impossible for us. I’ve learned that there are caring, kind, giving people that are willing to help. We’re excited even for the little things like having a “spot” for the Christmas tree every year, or having doors that close without having to lift up on them or having windows that freely open and close… I can’t express how thankful we are for this opportunity and I can’t thank the people of Habitat for Humanity enough for making this a reality for us.”

“I would like the community to know how much my family appreciates all of the donations and volunteers that have helped us through this process. Without them, this wouldn’t have been possible. I also want them to know how thankful we are and how truly life changing this home is for us. It’s just not a home, it’s a safe place for our family to grow, it’s stability, it’s the center of our lives. ”

– Homeowner Ashley

“Before the Habitat Program, our living situation was stressful and overwhelming and small. The new home will be one less thing we have to worry about and stress over. It will give our family space to grow and bring a sense of happiness.”

Erin Arnett and Lukie

“My current living situation is a two bedroom apartment. Since I have lived here, roughly three years, we have had cockroach infestations, sex offenders dwelling in the building, SWAT team arresting the neighbor next door, people using illicit drugs around their children, as well as a child on the playground aiming a pellet gun at my son’s back while he played in the sand box. These are a few examples of the things we’ve endured in our time here. Though craziness surrounds us, I promised myself that I would above all else provide my son with stability in this crazy would we live in. I couldn’t justify uprooting us only to live in another apartment simply because this is our home. I made a five year plan after I had Lukie. Currently I will be entering my third year of school, third year at a job I absolutely love, as well as remained in this apartment for three long years. Now we have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to build and own our own home. I am not hoping things will change when we move into our new home, I know without a doubt that they will change. For me this home means having somewhere that my son can grow, a place where wonderful memories will be made. For us it means having a place for “Mommy” to grow old, and one day is a place where Lukie could raise a family of his own. This truly is a dream come true. It means having our own place in this world. It means we can have a place for family gatherings, birthday parties, movie nights, sleepovers, camping in the back yard, sunrises and sunsets, coffee on the porch, our first Christmas tree in the living room, a sprinkler for Lukie to run through, basically everything one would dream of for a family. As you can see, this means more to us than moving into a home. It means moving in to a life.”

“We currently live in a small three bedroom mobile home with four kids and a dog. When our children were small, our home was the perfect size, but now since they’ve grown, not so much. When we move the kids will have their own space. My husband Jose and I also look forward to not sharing our bedroom with one of our kids. We are very excited and thankful for the Habitat Program. Thank you everyone for making our home owning dreams reality!”

“I have so many things that I am looking forward to living in our new home. After our previous house burnt down we watched all those memories go up in smoke, now we hold every experience dear to our heart, not taking a moment for granted. I am looking forward to this day so I can show everyone OUR house. This day will be the beginning of our new lives and I can’t wait to share it with all of our loved ones. It will be amazing to tuck the kids into their own beds in their own rooms at night. We have been sleeping in a crowded little room in my mother’s house for the last year and half. So having our own rooms will be a huge change for all of us. I am looking forward to Thursday night game nights and Friday night movie nights. We have not had time by ourselves in a long time, so it will be nice to have time with just the kids and me. There are so many moments that I am looking forward to doing I can’t even list them all. This is the best thing that has happened to us in a long time.”

Home is the place your heart resides
Home is the place that you decide
Home is the womb that holds the soul
Home is the place where one is whole

Home is the glow you hold in your eye
Home is the emotion that makes you cry
Home is safe and a place of peace
Home is where all strivings cease

Home is protective against the others
Home is full of sisters and brothers
Home is where you find your rest
Home is where you feel your best

Home is a memory that follows your being
Home is a dream for those agreeing
Home is the place where reserves fall
Home is the place you yearn to call

Home is where the family meets
Home is a place of restful retreats
Home is the place you know you’ll be heard
Home is the pace where nothing blurs

Home is all these wonderful things
Home is the place you develop wings
Home is the place that you’ll find one day
Home is the place where your heart will stay

“There are a number of things this new house will improve for our living situation. For starters we will have a kitchen table where we can enjoy a meal together instead of being in the living room. To me, meal times are about togetherness and a way for us to stay connected. Along with room for a kitchen table, I’m looking forward to a kitchen we can cook in together. Cooking is a way I teach the kids math skills and it’s something we love doing together. I look forward to having our “classroom” back as we try new foods and recipes.

I am so excited to move into our new home and for the kids to have a yard. I am excited to have a garden again and simply to have a space to call my own. To have the kids in a neighborhood that I feel safe to have them play outside in is a huge relief. I am just so thankful and blessed for this opportunity. Thank you everyone for making my dreams a reality.”

The most meaningful moment for me was when my friend Renee and I installed the flooring. It was meaningful to me because we did it together but also because we did it on our own. We tried something new and we did it right. It felt good to be able to do something useful and productive with my friend. I think we both had a good time working on the floor and we will have as much fun working on hers.

Just Home and Love! it’s hard to guess
Which of the two were best to gain;
Home without Love is bitterness;
Love without Home is often pain.
No! each alone will seldom do;
Somehow they travel hand and glove:
If you win one you must have two,
Both Home and Love.

Just Home and Love! the words are small
Four little letters unto each;
And yet you will not find in all
The wide and gracious range of speech
Two more so tenderly complete:
When angels talk in Heaven above,
I’m sure they have no words more sweet
Than Home and Love.

And if you’ve both, well then I’m sure
You ought to sing the whole day long;
It doesn’t matter if you’re poor
With these to make divine your song.
And so I praisefully repeat,
When angels talk in Heaven above,
There are no words more simply sweet
Than Home and Love.

“The opportunity given to me and my family for improving and bettering our lives has lifted the stress for providing for my family.

Owning this home is the best thing that has happened to my family in a long time. I am more grateful than words will ever be said or can be told—thank you. For my girls having their own bedroom creates a sense of being and freedom to call a space their own.”

I am super excited to be a homeowner, no more renting and throwing away my hard-earned money. My girls as well are super excited, we can now paint and decorate our rooms how we like them, and have more space as we all grow. This home will be wonderful and again I’m so excited for the opportunity. I can now watch my family grow in a home to call our own!

It’s The Lord That Builds Your Home

God’s love is what makes a house
A home where you can live
And His love is the foundation
And the tool He builds with

Let Him be the one who builds
Your house to be a place
Where others find the warmth of love
And acceptance by His grace

For when you try to build your home
With what you know won’t last
You may end up building your future
From the surplus of your past

But see this as a new beginning
A new life to pursue
A fresh new start and future hope
That God has given you
